The Guild

Meets on lst and 3rd Tuesday of each month in East Calder Session Room. The Guild provides a varied and interesting programme to suit a wide range of interests, and although traditionally in the past it has been primarily viewed as a women's organisation, it is now open to both men and women. Church membership is not obligatory. The present membership is about 30 and new members are always welcome. The programme includes outings and other activities with other local Guilds.

The Men's Fellowship meets fortnightly on Saturdays in East Calder Church Hall from 8.00am - 9.30am.  It's a lively and friendly group of about 25 men of all ages.  The meeting starts with breakfast and continues round the tables with an informal talk, followed by discussion, sharing and/or prayer.

We regularly have external informed speakers and this leads to a wide variety of interesting subjects. Why not join us and experience our fellowship, our debate and our friendly and welcoming atmosphere

The Alpha course is a ten week video-based programme supported by all the main Christian denominations, which explores the meaning of life and the ways in which the Christian faith relates to our questions and uncertainties. It's an opportunity to ask questions - to explore "faith-related issues" - to share with others in an open and welcoming environment. Run once or twice a year, almost 5 million people world-wide have already taken part. See the Calendar for details of Alpha at KNEC, and www.alphacourse.org for further information on Alpha.

Attendance at an Alpha Course also is recognised as a preparation for Church Membership.

The Church has several Housegroups for Bible study, sharing and prayer, which meet on 3 weeks of each month in different homes throughout East Calder, Livingston and Kirknewton. There are seven evening groups on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and two morning groups on Tuesdays. One of the morning groups is specially for young parents and has a crèche. Groups have about 10 people in them, and are relaxed, informal places to get to know a smaller group of church folk well and to enjoy reading and discussing God's word. There are no housegroups on the first week of each month. Instead there is a "Praise and Prayer" Service  on the first Wednesday of every month at 7.30pm, in Kirknewton and East Calder Churches alternately. See Calendar for details of times and places.

There will be opportunities to pray together, to share things, laugh a lot and support each other... there might even be a bit of singing or listening to music. And of course, cuppas and biccies! It's a great way to come together in friendship and Christian love and to discover more about what God's word can do for our lives.

What about non-church-goers? Is this you?

  •  Don't regularly or often come to services?
  •  New to the area and haven't yet been to a service?
  •  Feel you would like to join a group just the same?
  •  Sometimes, at times in our lives, a small group meeting can be more helpful and attractive to us than a big church service.

If that's you... then get in touch for more details. Don't worry if you don't yet know anyone well (or even at all)... that's what house groups are for!
