Once again, welcome to Kirknewton & East Calder Church. Whether you are a regular visitor to these pages, or just browsing, we hope you find something to interest or to help you within this web site. Kirknewton was the original Parish Church, built in 1750 to serve the villages of Kirknewton and East Calder. In 1886 the present East Calder church building was erected to serve a "United Free" congregation, but within 30 years the United Free church became part of the Church of Scotland, and the two villages became separate parishes. In 1944 the two congregations of Kirknewton and East Calder again united into a single parish. We hold worship services in both churches each Sunday, but operate as one congregation served by one minister and body of office bearers. There are a number of organisations within the church, most of which meet in the church hall at East Calder, which is alongside the church itself. This web site provides details, and it is our hope that you will wish to participate. We would be delighted to have you join us at one of the worship services or at one of the organisations. Our aim is that Kirknewton and East Calder Church should continue to grow as a church community, built on the teachings of the Bible, and united in worship and service. Our goals are:
Kirknewton & East Calder Parish Church is part of West Lothian Presbytery of the Church of Scotland, which is a presbyterian church. The church at local level is managed by the Kirk Session for pastoral and spiritual matters; and a Congregational Board for financial and property related matters. The following sub-committees support this structure:
If you have been a member of a Church, and would like to transfer your membership, we would be delighted to welcome you to our fellowship. The procedure is simple. Contact your previous Minister or Session Clerk and ask for your Certificate of Transfer of Church Membership (Lines). Once you have this, you simply pass it on either to the Session Clerk or to the Minister (see the Directory above). Whether or not you are a Church member, however, you are very welcome to all Church meetings and activities.
Bookings may be made for special events or ongoing activities in either church hall accommodation, provided the requested time does not conflict with the Church's own use. All requests must be ratified by the Church Board, and should be made via the Hall Convener (see the Directory above) by the end of the first week in each month.
